Administrative Assistant 

This position is ideal for a highly-energetic and friendly individual who is an effective communicator and presents a positive image.  First impressions are very important and the company’s receptionist often provides the first impression for a customer by phone or in person.  Requires knowledge of phone etiquette and a professional demeanor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience in a Receptionist position.

Applications Scientist 

This position supports the sales force from a technical perspective in interactions with customers and potential customers.  It requires being a self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for full customer support of both Fischione and TVIPS GmbH products.  TVIPS is a major manufacturer of cameras and software for transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

 

With time, needs to develop an acute knowledge of both Fischione’s and TVIPS’ products as well as competitive devices and techniques.  Required to participate in sales calls and trade shows.  Performs advanced product demonstrations as necessary.  Responsible for full customer field support, including independent installation, on-site customer training, telephone/email support, and hardware and software troubleshooting of new and existing products.  Responsible for ensuring that products meet operating specifications, performs documented service, and manages scheduling and logistics.

 

Maintains microscopy facilities and is responsible for procedures, documentation, and equipment performance.  Performs original research and publishes in peer-reviewed journals.  Participates in technical conferences and contributes presentations or posters.  Promotes company’s image and products through technical forums and application notes.  Creates and ensures the technical accuracy of any corporate literature or publication.  Frequently collaborates with Fischione’s end users.

 

Requires a Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Biology or a related subject and strong transmission electron microscopy (TEM) experience for various life and physical science applications.  Experience with TEM camera technology, digital imaging, and electron tomography is beneficial.  Must be willing to travel between 25% and 40%, both domestically and internationally.

Assembly Technician 

This position involves the assembly of Fischione products including the building of precision, electro-mechanical sub-assemblies and complete instrumentation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of technical school education.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of related experience in the assembly and testing of complex, precision, electronic and/or electro-mechanical devices is essential.
  • The ability to use a wide variety of electronic test instruments is expected.
  • Must display outstanding skills in verbal communication, organization, and the ability to interpret complex technical drawings, electronic schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity of standard vacuum practice is a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9000 would be beneficial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs intricate advanced assembly of both ultra-precision sub-assemblies and complex instrumentation.
  • Required to work to extreme tolerances and both recognize and take the action necessary to achieve ultra-precise operation.
  • Must be able to assemble products from drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, procedures, and verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Performs advanced adjustments and calibration using a wide range of test instruments.
  • May be required to work directly with customers in order to ensure complete adherence to the product specifications and customer expectations.
  • Performs highly complex assembly and testing processes, sometimes with miniature components.
  • Conducts sophisticated troubleshooting and needs to use judgment when re-working to meet quality specifications.
  • Records and analyzes test data and prepares reports when required.
  • Expected to develop manufacturing, assembly, and test procedures that facilitate effective, efficient, and quality production of all instrumentation.

CNC Machinist

In this position, a skilled machinist will be required to perform intricate and close tolerance machining of small, advanced precision components, in low quantities, using CNC equipment (mills and lathes) and/or manual machines.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Three plus years experience in the setup and operation of CNC Lathes and/or CNC Vertical Mills. Preferably this experience will include utilizing Okuma, Fanuc and Siemens controls.
  • Editing G-code programs to make adjustments if needed. Additional programming experience would be beneficial.
  • The ability to use trigonometry and perform standard machining calculations is needed.
  • A working level knowledge of Windows-based PC operation.
  • Applicants should be extremely detail oriented.

Drafter 

In this position, the entry-level drafter uses CAD tools to generate and revise three-dimensional models, detail and assembly drawings, bills of materials, and other manufacturing documentation for various mechanical and electromechanical scientific instruments.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Have an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering technology with 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology with 0-1 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Field Service Engineer

This position provides service for advanced scientific equipment at the customer site, including installation, maintenance, repair, and technical support.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Requires an Associates Degree in electronics, electro-mechanics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a technical service capacity; prior field service responsibility for complex, precision, electronic and/or electro-mechanical devices is preferred.

Senior Mechanical Engineer 

Seeking a highly-motivated individual to perform engineering studies, project plans/schedules, design (including drawings and schematics), development, testing, and evaluation of intricate miniature mechanical and electromechanical scientific instruments or systems involving precision motion control stages, vacuum, ion/electron optics, cryogenic technologies, and instrument packaging.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Must be proficient in physics, materials chemistry, kinematics, mathematical methods, statics and dynamics, engineering mechanics, FEA, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and vibrations.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of electrical engineering as it pertains to control circuitry and embedded software.
  • Must be highly proficient in designing for repeatable/cost-effective manufacturability, the use of geometric tolerancing, 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) modeling systems in order to prepare detailed engineering documentation, and the use of diagnostic instrumentation.
  • Must be able to simultaneously coordinate multiple projects and adhere to aggressive project timelines.
  • Should be familiar with regulatory standards (CSA, SEMI, CE, VDE, PTB).
  • Requires a masters degree in mechanical engineering combined with a minimum of eight (8) years engineering experience.

Service/Customer Support Manager 

The person in this position fosters customer loyalty and maintains customer satisfaction by providing problem-solving resources and managing service personnel.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline.  A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a technical service capacity. Prior service responsibility for complex, precision, electronic and/or electro-mechanical devices is preferred.
  • Must have prior supervisory experience of technical staff.
  • Understands standard vacuum practice and high-voltage technology (not required, but a plus).
  • Is experienced with customer service, quality, process improvement, planning, information analysis, and standards development.
  • Interprets complex technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and electronic schematics to the component level.
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Has good organizational habits and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Has a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The customer service manager is responsible for the service component of the company. This responsibility entails:

  • Developing an acute knowledge of the complete Fischione product line and be able to conduct any repair when required.
  • Initiating and independently prioritizing the activities of the in-house and field service staff. 
  • Establishing service contracts.
  • Establishing service costs and rates to ensure the profitability of the service component of the business.
  • Ensuring equipment meets performance specifications.
  • Using CRM to record and track service issues.
  • Accomplishing human resource objectives, including:
    • Recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, and counseling employees;
    • Communicating job expectations;

  • Determining customer service requirements by:

Software Engineer 

This position performs key roles in software development for product engineering, and in the support of internal IT-related operations.  Candidate must be flexible, self-motivated, capable of effectively working independently and in small interdisciplinary teams, and possess excellent communication skills.

Must possess knowledge of real-time software for embedded systems, diverse applications for PC-class computers, and web applications.  Demonstrated proficiency in C++ and C# (or managed C++) for instrumentation and/or control systems is required.  Development environments are MS-Windows and Linux (preferred candidate will be proficient in both; MS-Windows is required.)  Target environments are MS-Windows, .NET, Qt, embedded Linux, embedded DOS, and Java (proficiency in .NET is required.)  Cross-platform development experience is a plus.

Will be expected to produce quality work, meet project deadlines, react quickly to customer issues and other interruptions, and effectively handle rapidly changing priorities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Software development responsibilities include the engineering of new products and product features, as well as support and maintenance for existing products.  Duties consist of all phases of software engineering for Fischione’s products.  Tasks include software specification, design, hardware interfacing, implementation, debugging, testing, and documentation, as well as customer support, production support, sales support, software configuration management, user documentation and training.

Management services for the company’s internal Information Systems (servers/network) are primarily provided by an IT consulting firm.  In addition to product development, the candidate’s responsibilities will also include providing ancillary support for IT activities.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft business and Office products, Microsoft client/server architectures, and database management (Microsoft SQL) are required.  Duties include:

  • Liaison between IT Consultant, ERP Consultant, CRM Consultant, and Fischione.
  • Initial contact for internal company computer issues;  “Man on the ground” assistance for network issues.
  • Monitor status of backups, change backup media;  Reboot servers off-hours, as needed.
  • Provide ERP Database Maintenance/Administration (especially during upgrades).  Maintain ERP Test Database.
  • Computer Hardware/Software procurement and disposal.  Interface with IT Consultant on new purchases.
  • Review/approve software license and service renewals (Warranty, Antivirus, Spam filtering service, Domain name registration, Digital security certificates, Content filter renewals).

Requires a degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent,) and at least 4 years relevant software development experience.  Some domestic and international travel may be required.

Software Engineer (Entry Level) 

This position involves the software development for product engineering, and the support of internal IT-related operations.  Candidate must be flexible, self-motivated, capable of effectively working independently and in small interdisciplinary teams, and possess excellent communication skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience in software development using C++ and C# is desirable.  Platforms are embedded Linux and MS Windows.
  • Skills in hardware interfacing, networking, and cross-platform development are a plus.
  • Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Real-time embedded control systems and graphic user interface for both embedded and desktop implementations.
  • Database applications using MS SQL Server.
  • General IT infrastructure support.
  • Other duties as assigned.
